WHY WINGED
Only the Best Ingredients

At Winged we never compromise – we use a chemical free CO2 extraction process that gently preserves the active nutrients of the hemp plant without harsh residual solvents like ethanol.

Quality You Can Trust

All products are tested multiple times from seed-to-shelf by an independent 3rd party lab to assure quality, potency and purity. Our products are guaranteed to contain the CBD on the label and be free of heavy metals, pesticides and harmful microbes. Each label contains a QR Code that can be scanned by a smartphone and is linked to a Certificate of Analysis on our website for every batch we produce. All our products are made in cGMP compliant and NSF certified facilities.

Hemp Grown in the USA

The full spectrum hemp extract used in our products is legally grown under the warm Kentucky sun using pesticide-free farming methods. Our agricultural hemp is never genetically modified and all our products are gluten free. Hemp farming is sustainable and ecological. Hemp sequesters CO2 in the soil leaving it in better condition than when planted and uses 80% less water than many agricultural crops.

PRODUCT FAQs

Winged decided to focus on women after our co-founder, Jess Mulligan, had a long period of debilitating anxiety and found relief from plant medicines like CBD, adaptogens and herbs. She realized there was nothing on the market that combined these powerhouse ingredients and tailor made it for women. Jess knew so many women who were going through the same things she was emotionally and knew a CBD product line that was specifically made for women could help them find the relief she had found.

When Winged was started, we spoke with hundreds of women and asked one simple question, “What products would help you be the best version of you?” We heard over and over the same responses.

  • “I need help handling the stresses of the day.”
  • “I would like to sleep better.”
  • “I’d like to be in a better mood.”
  • “I’d like help with overall balance with my health and my life.”

With this front of mind, we created a line of supplements that supported each of these needs.

Every woman is different, so based on your specific needs we hope there’s a product in our lineup that helps you be the best version of you.

All Winged products meet the definition of hemp and contain less than 0.3% THC.

CO2 is like that deliciously fresh squeezed orange juice, whereas other extraction techniques that do not use CO2 are like store bought orange juice from concentrate. Let’s be real – it tastes way different.

CO2 extraction is considered the gold standard for hemp processing because it doesn’t require solvents like ethanol, butane or propane, which inevitably leave residue behind. CO2 is carbon dioxide, just like the gas found in the air we breathe. After passing through the hemp plant and extracting all those lovely nutrients, CO2 evaporates and no residuals are left behind – just pure, nutritious full spectrum hemp extract.

All products in our line are vegan except for Balance Soft Gels and Happiness Soft Gels. We use a bovine gelatin shell for those two products because we’ve found that material preserves the freshness of the internal soft gel nutrients better than plant-based shell materials.

Our products have a shelf life of two years from the date of manufacturing. The expiration date is printed on the bottom of the box and bottle, so you always know you are taking a fresh product.

Our Balance line of CBD oils are formulated with coconut oil. Occasionally, the Balance Oil may turn a beautiful pink color. A pink hue in coconut products (like coconut water or coconut oil) is from concentrated antioxidants called polyphenol oxidase, a sign of high quality coconut. The pink color doesn’t compromise the effectiveness of the product and is safe to take.

CBD 101

Hemp cultivation is one of the oldest crops known to humankind dating back over 10,000 years. Hemp has been grown for textile fibers, pottery, rope and food. The Chinese were one of the first to recognize the hemp plant and used it to make paper. In 2700 BCE the first reference to hemp was found in literature. The Chinese Emperor Shen Nung, known as the father of ancient Chinese medicine, wrote the medical encyclopedia “Pen Ts’ao” which contains a list of hundreds of medicines derived from plants, and cannabis “ma” was on the list!

Hemp has been used for hundreds of years in America. Some believe that our very own Declaration of Independence was originally written on hemp paper. However, the Tax Act of 1937 made it illegal to grow hemp because it was classified in the same category as it’s illicit cousin marijuana. After lots of education and lobbying, hemp was finally legalized initially by the 2014 Farm Bill and then expanded by the 2018 Farm Bill. Today, hemp is used in a variety of industries, including beauty products and food, but is most well known as a supplement using CBD oil from hemp extract. We are excited to see where this industry will go in the future, we can only imagine!

There’s lots of confusion around CBD and THC, but it’s understandable because of two similar looking plant “cousins” that come from the same genus of plant called cannabis. There are two distinctly different types of cannabis plants – one is marijuana and the other is hemp. Marijuana is classified as a drug that can get you “high” and hemp is federally legal and isn’t considered a drug. The difference between marijuana and hemp lies in the amount of THC and CBD found in each plant.

Marijuana can contain over 30% THC, which is the substance that gives someone a “high” euphoric feeling. However, marijuana generally contains low amounts of CBD.

Hemp, as defined by law, cannot contain more than 0.3% THC. That’s 100 times less THC than marijuana! Such a small amount of THC means there’s no psychoactive “high” when hemp is consumed. On the other hand, CBD concentrations are greater in hemp plants and offer all the wonderful benefits you’ve heard about. In other words, you won’t get stoned when taking a CBD product.

Without dragging you through an hourlong monologue on the history of hunter-gatherer eating habits (side note: how did they survive without French fries?), let’s just say that the cannabinoids found in the hemp plant have been part of the human diet throughout history…until the past 80 years or so in America. Due to prohibition and the misclassification of hemp, most people are lacking the amazing nutrition found in hemp.

Cannabidiol (CBD), the most abundant cannabinoid in hemp, is such a critical nutrient that our bodies have evolved an entire system to utilize this nutrient. Similar to our Nervous System, we have a system called the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) that is nourished by cannabinoids like CBD and it’s responsible for harmonizing all other systems within our bodies. It might not seem like it, but that’s a BIG DEAL!

From killing it at work, continuously washing a never-ending pile of laundry, dealing with rambunctious kids, to looking like a movie star when we step out of the front door, we all do our best to find balance in our day to day lives. Well, that’s where the ECS comes in. When a system in our body is out of whack, the ECS systems knows exactly what to do in order to bring our bodies back to homeostasis.

Does it ever feel like your hormones are off-balanced? Or do you ever feel like one minute you’re on cloud nine and the next you’re anxious and angry? It could be that an undernourished ECS doesn’t have the resources to support one of the other systems in your body.

If you don’t properly feed the ECS it tends to get a little “hangry”. That’s where we come in, by providing high quality hemp-derived CBD formulas. Basically, Winged offers the nutritional equivalent of comfort food for the ECS.

Every person produces something called “endocannabinoids”, which are chemicals our bodies make that feed the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). However, due to the stress of modern life our bodies often can’t keep up and we need a little help from Mother Nature. “Phytocannabinoids” are found in the hemp plant and are nearly identical to the endocannabinoids that our own bodies produce. A hemp extract supplement contains these “phytocannabinoids” to nutritionally support our ECS System.

Hemp extract and hemp seed oil contain completely different nutrients.

Hemp Extract is derived from the hemp plant, most commonly from the flowers and leaves. The extract is naturally rich in phytocannabinoids. The most famous (and most abundant) phytocannabinoid is Cannabidiol (CBD), but there are dozens of other cannabinoids like Cannabinol (CBN), Cannabigerol (CBG) and Cannabichromene (CBC) found in hemp extract as well. These are the nutrients that nourish the Endocannabinoid System and offer benefits like mood and sleep support or physical discomfort relief.

Hemp Seed Oil does not contain phytocannabinoids like CBD and does not offer the same benefits. Hemp Seed Oil is derived from hemp seeds and contains fatty acids, much like olive oil or coconut oil. It is still nutritious for the body, but in a different way. Hemp Seed Oil can be used for cooking or salad dressings but isn’t used as a dietary supplement like CBD from hemp extract.

A hemp plant, after being harvested from our pesticide-free fields, then gets processed to remove the beneficial micro-nutrients found in the plant. Out comes an amazingly nutritious juice called hemp extract. From that point on additional refinement occurs, such as removing some of the waxes found in the hemp extract juice.

What’s left is a “full spectrum” hemp extract, meaning that the juice contains the full range of phytocannabinoids found in the hemp plant. CBD is the most famous cannabinoid, but there are over 80 other phytocannabinoids like CBG, CBN, CBC, CBDa and so on. In our eyes, we believe this is the most beneficial type of hemp extract because we don’t leave anything out that was created in nature. There may be very low levels of THC in the full spectrum hemp extract, but it’s below 0.3% concentration, which is the limit allowed by the federal government. Such a small amount of THC won’t get you high like marijuana and is legal throughout America to sell as a dietary supplement.

Full spectrum hemp extract can be further processed to remove 100% of the THC if desired. Often this additional processing involves solvents like ethanol. It’s difficult to remove only THC though, so during the removal process some of the other beneficial cannabinoids like CBG, CBC and CBN may also be reduced. Not all of the other cannabinoids are removed, so in addition to CBD there are still some amounts of the other cannabinoids left. This is then referred to as “broad spectrum” hemp extract.

A third process can also be performed to completely remove everything except CBD using additional solvents. All of the other cannabinoids, including THC, CBG, CBN and CBC are taken out. That is referred to as an “isolate” of CBD. Isolate CBD has come under criticism because many believe the combination of all the cannabinoids in hemp work together as a team to increase the benefits in the body. That teamwork is called the “Entourage Effect”, but isolates don’t have that benefit.

There’s a ton of “sciency” details that we could put you to sleep with, but we’d rather not waste your time and let you take a Sleepy Gummy if you need to hit the hay. Here’s the idea…just like there’s no “I” in team, there’s no teamwork effect if you take an isolate of CBD only. There are over 80 cannabinoids in the hemp plant and they work together – you guessed it – as a team in the body to produce the best benefits. Full spectrum hemp extract (as described above) contains all those other beneficial cannabinoids so they work in harmony to nourish your Endocannabinoid System.

Why Education Is Important in the CBD Movement

Why Education Is Important in the CBD Movement

The minute the mainstream media draws attention to a new product, demand for that product inevitably goes up. No questions asked. Just a few years ago, almost nobody had even heard of CBD. Today, you can’t walk by a convenience store without signs in the window touting CBD oil pens for sale!

Before you pick some up while you’re filling your gas tank, it’s important you understand the who, what, when, where, why and how of CBD. Time for a little CBD education!

CBD products have become socially acceptable rather quickly. This is wonderful news for CBD companies, but it also complicates the industry. Much like you can walk the streets of New York and get a knockoff watch from a peddler, you can also fall prey to fake or low-quality CBD products. The ramifications of buying this sort of knockoff far exceed those of a “Bolex” watch. That is why education is essential in the CBD movement.

Not All CBD Products Are From the Same Source

physician for CBD education

Before you make any changes to your routine that are intended to maintain optimal wellness, it is best to consult a physician. Go into the appointment educated so you understand how CBD products may support your system. Once you have a firm understanding of the endocannabinoid system and the potential benefits of hemp extract, you can then begin to comprehend the difference in products. At Joy Organics, it is our goal to educate our customers about what exactly they are putting into their bodies.

First, we’ll start with the source of CBD oils. In states with medical cannabis programs, some CBD oil may be extracted from marijuana. That’s because some patients want a higher concentration of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in their CBD oil. THC is one of over 100 known cannabinoids found in cannabis and it’s also the compound that is responsible for the euphoric effect experienced by marijuana users.

The most common source for CBD oil is hemp. Hemp naturally has a low quantity of THC — for it to be classified as hemp in the United States, the plant must have a THC concentration of 0.3% or less. This low concentration of THC makes premium grade CBD oil a more family-friendly option. However, just because the CBD oil is derived from hemp doesn’t mean it’s of superior quality.

Differences in CBD Products

When you first start looking into CBD products, you might be overwhelmed by the number of options. Joy was just as confused when she wanted to try CBD. The CBD industry has exploded since then, making the waters even murkier now.

If Joy learned anything, it was to relax and go into the process educated. All the education in the world still didn’t prepare her for a truth she learned firsthand, though. That’s why it’s her mission now to provide CBD products you can trust.

Broad Spectrum Hemp Extract vs. CBD Isolate

education about cbd isolate

Seeing the words “CBD isolate” on your CBD product might make you feel like you hit the jackpot at the CBD casino. After all, if you hear the words “CBD” on the news so much, why wouldn’t you want just CBD? That’s where a little extra education comes in handy. While CBD isolate may support a healthy lifestyle for some people, the potential benefits may not be realized fully.

Like THC in marijuana, CBD is another one of the many phytocannabinoids currently known to be contained in cannabis. These cannabinoids have a symbiotic relationship with one another known as the entourage effect.

Oils branded with the terms full spectrum or broad spectrum use a wealth of the natural compounds in hemp, including additional cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids. These bring you more benefits than just CBD alone.

Check How the CBD is Extracted

There is more to choosing a CBD brand than looking for words like broad spectrum hemp extract. You should also become familiar with how the company extracts the oil.

For instance, some essential oil and edible oil companies use chemical solvents such as hexane. This compound will speed the extraction process up and, in some cases, produce a higher yield of oil. However, it also introduces a foreign chemical into the process.

Some chemical solvents may have reactions with the compounds in the hemp extract. While it may or may not diminish the potential benefits, it does tarnish nature’s intended support.

To avoid this less-than-desirable diversion from nature, opt for companies like Joy Organics that use pressurized carbon dioxide to extract the oils. This process is natural, sustainable and maintains the integrity of the compounds.

Are There Any Additives?

additives free

Once the phytocannabinoids are separated from the physical matter, the resulting oil is encapsulated, mixed into cosmetics, added to tinctures or incorporated into other products. Just like you have to be wary of chemical solvents, you should also be wary of the additives mixing with your cannabinoids.

At Joy Organics, we use all-natural ingredients to bring flavor to our CBD tinctures. We carry four delicious flavors:

  • Tranquil Mint
  • Lemon
  • Orange
  • Natural

Each flavor is created using organic essential oils. That means the formula is full of terpenes that complement the entourage effect.

Tinctures typically have a carrier oil that the cannabinoids are mixed with. Some companies will use harsh ingredients like ethanol that make for a burning sensation in the mouth, but we use organic medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) oil or extra-virgin olive oil.

Third-Party Testing on CBD Products

The CBD industry isn’t well regulated yet, so you need to do the policing for yourself. Luckily, many reputable companies are transparent about their products. We find this the most crucial requirement when vetting CBD companies.

To ensure complete transparency, every batch of product we produce is tested by an ISO-certified third-party lab. These labs test for contaminants like pesticides and heavy metals, and they also check potency levels. If a product doesn’t pass a test, we don’t release it. We also publish all test results on our website for you to review!

Where Joy Organics Stands Out

Joy Organics family

We wouldn’t sell anything we wouldn’t give to our family. Our mission of providing high-quality CBD products begins at the source.

We make sure our hemp is grown without pesticides in nutrient-rich U.S. soil. When extracting the CBD, CO2 extraction ensures a clean, efficient process.

We use proprietary nanoemulsion technology in the creation of our softgels. This breakthrough method allows us to create particles as small as 25 nanometers. Compared to other CBD companies that range around 100 to 1,000 nanometers, our softgel particles are some of the smallest in the game.

Speaking of oil, we all know it doesn’t mix with water. That’s why it’s so hard for our body to absorb the nutrients in CBD oil. To combat this issue, we create water-soluble hemp powder to add to our Dog Treats and Energy Drink. That way you (or your pet) can get your serving of CBD in a number of ways without compromising the quality.

Lastly, we want to circle back to our mantra of not giving you anything that we wouldn’t give our family. This is the cornerstone of our belief system and why our products are 0.0% THC. With that being said, we still maintain the integrity of many of the other beneficial compounds in the hemp plant.

Get Educated and Get Well

You only have one body, so treat it kindly. Do you need help supporting a healthy lifestyle? Perhaps premium grade hemp extract is the answer. Before you go out and purchase every CBD product you see, make sure you read up on the company first. If you can’t find lab results or information on their process, move on. There are plenty of other companies out there who are eager, excited and proud to share that kind of information with you!
